The concept of this programme came from a conversation with Tim Bayley, a 800m runner who works for Tescos who having won the under 20 AAA championships declared that due a lack of funding he was forced to sleep in his car the night before!

Tim’s sporting career first begun at the age of 11 when he competed for Sussex County in both cricket and football, until the age of 18 when he made the decision to concentrate on athletics. In his fist season he won the Sussex Championships and Schools over 800m gaining the opportunity to represent Sussex at the English Schools Championships. He then focused his attention on 400m for the rest of the season finishing 7th in the AAA under 20 Championships final. Since that first year he has gone on to represent the South of England, England Senior team, Great Britain under 23 team and most recently Great Britain Senior team. Since 2002 he has now moved to 800m and is being coached by Jonathan Bigg.

4 year plan
Tim’s main short term aims are to qualify for both the 2005 European indoor Championships, and the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia, whilst improving on his personal best time for 800m significantly. His long term goals are to compete in the 2006 European Championship in Helsinki, Finland, the 2007 World Championships in Osaka, Japan in the lead up to his main target of competing at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

University and Education
Tim is currently in his 3rd year studying for his BSc in Sports and Exercise Science at Brighton University, Chelsea School, which is widely considered to offer one of the best Sports and Exercise Science programmes in the country. Additionally he receives a sports scholarship from the University allowing him access to guidance, advice and testing in all areas of Sports Science performance including psychology, nutrition, physiology and bio-mechanics, as well as discounted physiotherapy treatment. Tim has ambitions to go on to complete his MSc masters degree in Sports Science at Brighton University, Chelsea School.
