Hugely experienced, with an international career that began as a junior in 1985 and senior in 1986, John set four British records outdoors and three indoors at 200m 1987-94. He also ran on teams that set relay records; Commonwealth and European 4x400m 1990, English and Commonwealth 4x100m 1989 and 1990, World Indoor 4x200m 1991.
In 1987 he very nearly won the World title, as he led at 195m.
He was Britain’s first World Indoor champion in 1989. At the 1990 Europeans he won a men’s record four medals, including a 43.93 third leg to ensure Britain’s 4x400m gold. |
